This rather funky layout, not my usual style, was inspired by a Kate Spade ad and was completed for the Pub ad inspiration challenge at Two Peas in a Bucket. Here’s the story behind the page: My older son loves Chinese food, fortune cookies, and fortunes. In fact, he has collected dozens of those little strips of paper (which I’m always picking up from the floor of his room). He wouldn’t part with any fortunes from his collection for this layout, though, so I made these myself. I gave him a list of real fortunes that I found on the Web and had him choose his favorites.
I applied a filter to the photograph in Photoshop Elements and added the title before printing. The photo appears to measure 8 x 12 inches, but in fact I cheated: I printed it in two parts and pieced it together. A strip of black ribbon above the title covers the seam.
I’ve received a number of positive comments about the background. The paper is called “In Circles,” and it’s part of the Nature Love line by ScrapMode. I used dots of Tulip Puffy Paint on the background paper to add dimension. The paint is intended for fabric, but it works just fine on heavyweight patterned paper and cardstock. The paint dries shiny and dimensional; the steam from an iron will puff it out and give it a softer matte finish, as shown below. (It reminds me of tiny little marshmallows, actually!)
