Page Starters
Motif: Hearts
Hearts are an enduring decoration on scrapbook pages. This month, find a new way to incorporate hearts into your scrapbooking. Embellish your next page with hearts cut from an unusual material, like cork or fabric or aluminum foil. Assemble your photos into a heart-shaped collage. Encircle your photo with a heart made of ribbon or embroidery. Or make your entire layout in the shape of a heart.
Journaling: Quirky Love List
In honor of Valentine’s Day, make a list of ten quirky little things you love about your spouse or child or someone else. Take photos to illustrate as many of your loved one’s quirks as possible, and scrap your list.
Product: Buttons
Buttons are a versatile and inexpensive embellishment for scrapbook pages. Use them to frame a photograph or journaling block, dot the “i”s in your title, or add dimension to flowers and other elements. Attach them to your page with Glue Dots or liquid glue, or stitch them in place with embroidery floss.
Photography: Winter Scenes
What does winter look like in your neck of the woods? Take your camera outdoors and record the scene. Get a few “big picture” shots of your home and yard, and then focus on the details. Use your macro setting, if you have one, to zoom in on snow-covered berries or ice-frosted branches. If winter isn’t quite that dramatic where you live, go on a scavenger hunt to find the little signs that tell you that winter has arrived.
